Latin

Introducing students to the Latin language.

Latin is taught from Year 7 onwards. Lessons are delivered in an active and engaging way with a high emphasis on connecting Latin language and Roman culture with other languages and modern life.  We aim to enrich our study of Latin through a variety of trips and activities.

At KS3 we study Latin grammar formally, though the approach is activity-based. We also take Year 8 on a trip to Bath to see the Roman Baths.

From Year 9, most pupils choose to study two languages out of French, Spanish and Latin. A select group is invited to study all three for a further year. New pupils entering the school at this point can opt to study Latin as a new subject and will follow an accelerated programme for a year, which will bring able students to the point where they can select Latin as a GCSE option.
