Romano Wang becomes a National Diving Champion

22nd Sep 2018

We are so proud of Romano Wang in Year 7 for his incredible achievement at the Swim England National Skills Finals. His fantastic diving skills won first place by a substantial 30 points with a stunning performance, scoring 5 perfect 10's which has never happened before!

The National Skills diving competition is fought over 12 rounds and the best from England’s 50 diving clubs participate.

Below is a quote from a letter from Chris Snode, Diving Director at Crystal Palace Diving Club, which is the diving club Romano belongs to.

"What I and everyone else witnessed in Romano’s performance last month in Manchester was quite remarkable. No one had heard of or seen Romano before as he had only competed in that one Regional competition a few weeks prior. Throughout practice he looked good but once the completion began he took command of the boards and was in a class of his own.

Romano scored 5 perfect 10’s which has never happened before. He won the event by a substantial 30 points and his final score of 360.55 was an all time record.

We knew we had a special talent when Romano first walked through the doors of the National Sports Centre and it is satisfying to see that he is proving himself in such style."

Well done Romano, you have displayed all of our core values - excellence, perseverance, respect and courage.

Congratulations on this fantastic achievement.
