Radnor House aims to celebrate every individual, and this necessitates ensuring that our Sixth Form students are provided with the guidance and support required to make successful applications to Higher Education institutions. Where students wish to apply to the most competitive courses and the most prestigious universities with unusual entry requirements Radnor House is committed to providing additional support, guidance and tutorship.

The SUP aims to broaden the learning experience of those students with exceptional academic ability or potential relative to their peer group and to develop their independent learning skills in preparation for a specialist university UCAS application. The specialist universities included in the SUP are The University of Oxford, The University of Cambridge, any international university and any university offering Medicine, Veterinary Studies or Dentistry.

 How does the programme work?

All students enrolled in the SUP attend regular meetings with either the Oxbridge Coordinator or the Director of Sixth Form starting in September of L6. These meetings take place on a one-to-one basis and ensure that appropriate provision and support is in place for the requirements that a UCAS application to one of the Specialist Universities entails. Individualised support programmes are tailored to the SUP student’s particular needs regarding their chosen university and course. This includes research tasks regarding university course content, wider reading around A-level and undergraduate topics, university admission test preparation (BMAT, UKCAT, STEP, MAT, SAT, HAT etc.), Personal Statement advice and interview preparation with practice interviews conducted by subject specialists in both L6 and U6.

 University visits

Radnor House has strong links with both Cambridge and Oxford with many of the staff having spent time studying at one of these prestigious institutions. Annual visits to Cambridge and Oxford take place in the Autumn and Spring terms respectively. SUP students have the chance to visit colleges in both cities and will gain access to areas usually off-limits to the public. They meet current undergraduates who have successfully been through the rigours of an Oxbridge application in the very recent past and have the opportunity to pick the brains of current professors and tutors working at the Oxbridge colleges. These visits provide a unique experience, not only inspiring our SUP students but also providing them with useful and current advice on how to give themselves the best chance of making a successful Oxbridge application. They are really enjoyable occasions too.
