Physics

Physics is crucial to understanding the world around us, the world inside us, and the world beyond us. It is the fundamental science. Physics encompasses the study of the universe from the largest galaxies to the smallest subatomic particles.

We encourage our pupils to take part in Engineering courses and visit particle accelerator laboratories as part of our commitment to enriching the subject. There is a planned visit to CERN for 6th Form pupils.

A Physics qualification is proof of higher-order problem solving and analytical ability which is highly prized by employers in many industries including, among others, business and finance.

Studying Physics at school or college is the first step towards a wide variety of rewarding careers. Physics provides broad training in skills that are valued by all employers; an ability to grasp concepts quickly, a determination to find coherent answers, along with problem-solving, analytical, mathematical and IT skills. We offer extension problem-solving in Year 12 and Year 13 as an extra-curricular activity.

Even if you decide that you don't want to work in any Physics-related industry, the skills and knowledge that you develop by studying Physics will help you in whichever area you go into. Studying Physics is a good way of keeping your options open.
