Sport

Sport plays a big part in the life of all pupils at Radnor House School, providing the opportunity to express themselves physically while also developing camaraderie, leadership skills and teamwork.

We aim to offer all pupils the opportunity to represent the school in competitive matches while working with them to ensure they are able to achieve their sporting aspirations, ranging from those who might be elite performers at national level to those who prefer their sport to be more recreational.

Despite being a relatively small school, Radnor House competes against much bigger schools with a great deal of success.  Our extensive links to outside agencies allow us access to a wide range of opportunities for all our pupils, for example we currently work closely with London Scottish RFC, Believe Perform (Sports Psychology), MINT coaching and Lions Sports Academy (Player Development), Twickenham Rowing Club and St Mary’s University.

Our pupils have recorded a large array of success across a number of different sports and we have been proud to celebrate individual and team successes in athletics (Middlesex Combined Events Champion and ISA national representation), diving (national champion), football (Academy and ISFA team selection), hockey (Middlesex and South of England representation), rugby (Academy and Middlesex representation) and rowing (Great Britain representation and National Champions).

Radnor sport utilises a number of the region’s best facilities for pupils to develop and enjoy their sport, making extensive use of St Mary’s University’s facilities for hockey, netball and athletics.  We also have our own multi-use hall onsite for indoor activities such as basketball, badminton and cricket nets, as well as our own netball and tennis court in Grotto Road.

An exciting addition to our sports provision in 2019 comes through a new long-term partnership with Teddington Cricket Club, creating an impressive facility in Bushy Park to strengthen the existing programmes in many of our sports for all our pupils.  These superb opportunities will help all our sportsmen and sportswomen further develop their skills and enhance their Radnor House experience.

Rowing is an integral part of the school’s sports provision, with pupils being able to opt in to the programme from an early age and with coaching provided by our own highly qualified and experienced coaches.  We have a close partnership with Twickenham Rowing Club, a short walk from the school, for all our water based sessions, as well as several indoor rowing machines for use at school.

The PE staff at Radnor House offer a wealth of experience and qualifications across a wide range of sporting activities, including national coaches, former professionals and Olympians.  Every staff member has performed sport at a high level and has an area of specialism, while also having extensive knowledge of the sports they teach. The department works collaboratively to ensure all lessons and coaching sessions  are of the highest possible standard.
